12. SOUNDBITE (English) Sigrid Kaag, Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Personal Representative of the Secretary-General to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority (UNSCO) ad interim:
“Again today, my first visit since the ceasefire, and we see a lot of movement, we see a lot of activity. I visited a health point, newly established, where pregnant women, newborns, and children up until the age of 5 get a very simple but important health check and referrals. I'm now at a UNICEF-run mental health facility, MHPSS. Children to play, to be together, but also to allow psychologists or specialized caretakers to see which children have suffered even more than every other child and need specialized and dedicated attention. But of course, the trauma is collective across the ages, but I'm deeply impressed also by the work UNICEF is doing to really pick up all the pieces and try to be where they can all over Gaza, with an important NGO called TAMU, to really reach out, work from within the community, and to try to build new routines for the children, despite the near-impossible conditions. Let's hope the ceasefire holds, and we can continue to bring in the humanitarian assistance that is so much needed, but also all the other goods that people come up to me and ask for. Shelter, a roof over their heads, clean water, sleep perhaps in the future in a bed, all the basic simple stuff in life they've all lost. And then we also have to deal, of course, and help them cope with the trauma and find new ways. It's very important that the entire UN family and the partners, NGOs, international and Palestinians, are here, working day and night to do so. I'm deeply impressed and humbled by the work carried out by all my colleagues.”

In her first visit since the announcement of the ceasefire, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Sigrid Kaag visited Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
During her visit, she reviewed efforts to support communities affected by the conflict and praised the ongoing humanitarian work in the area.
Kaag visited a newly established health center providing essential health checks for pregnant women, newborns, and children under the age of five.
She emphasized the importance of these basic yet vital services in improving the health of the local community.
Additionally, she visited a UNICEF-run mental health support center, which offers children a space to play and interact, as well as specialized psychological support for the most affected children.
Kaag expressed deep admiration for UNICEF's efforts, alongside its partner organization TAMU, in supporting children and establishing new routines for them despite the challenging conditions.
She stressed the necessity of continuing to deliver critical humanitarian aid to Gaza's residents while addressing basic needs such as shelter, clean water, and a decent standard of living.
