With the support of ECHO and Japan, UNICEF is providing emergency hygiene kits to the most affected communities in the Gaza Strip. By addressing the urgent hygiene needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in designated shelters, this aims to improve living conditions and reduce the risk of health-related issues among vulnerable families.

UNICEF plans to support water production in the south and north of Gaza to increase its distribution and storage, though this will require significant supplies that have yet to enter the Gaza Strip.

With the support of the UK, Sweden, Norway, and ECHO, UNICEF is distributing winter clothing to children in the middle area of Gaza’s most affected communities. This support provides warmth and comfort to vulnerable children during the harsh winter months, ensuring they are protected from the cold.

“It’s been 15 very long months for children and their families here in Gaza, long months deep suffering and utter deprivation. Families are in need of everything, really. Since the cease fire has taken effect. The humanitarian community has been bringing in larger volumes of supplies, including UNICEF. Yesterday alone, we were able to collect 77 trucks with lifesaving supplies. They contain things like water, sanitary products, nutrition items, baby clothes, winter clothes for children, and also kids like. These are bags that will be handed out to vulnerable adolescent girls. It's very important that the humanitarian sector continues to have access as it had over the past two days. We need an enabling environment not just to collect the supplies at the crossing to bring them into Gaza, but also to be able to distribute them to children who need them the most.”

UNICEF has accelerated the distribution of supplies and services to children in the Gaza Strip, with more than 350 trucks entering in the first week of the long-awaited ceasefire.

The trucks, filled with water, hygiene kits, malnutrition treatments, warm clothes, tarpaulins and other critical humanitarian aid, have been entering from crossing points at both the north and south of the Gaza Strip and being distributed with partners to families in need.

More than 2 million people in the Gaza Strip, half of them children, face devastating shortages of basic necessities, including safe water and sanitation, food, and medical care. The damage to infrastructure is extensive, leaving many schools, hospitals, and homes destroyed.
