Storyline

Lebanon’s southern regions remain littered with landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO), posing a deadly threat to civilians and blocking recovery efforts. With a ceasefire in place, mine action is more urgent than ever.

UNDP is supporting the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC) to enhance coordination, risk education, and explosive ordnance disposal. This effort is crucial for making contaminated areas safe, allowing displaced families to return and rebuild their lives.

Deminers from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) are on the frontlines of this effort, clearing deadly remnants of war and ensuring communities can farm, work, and move safely. Their work is vital to Lebanon’s recovery.

Next, UNDP will scale up mine clearance, improve information-sharing systems, and expand risk education campaigns. By accelerating mine action, Lebanon can move toward a safer, more stable future.
