Security Council

(Resumed) The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question - Security Council, 9907th meeting

Do Not Let Extremists ‘Undermine What Remains’ of Middle East Peace Process, Secretary-General Tells Security Council Open Debate
Description

The recent collapse of a temporary ceasefire on 18 March extinguished hopes for de-escalation, the Secretary-General said.

Since then, nearly 2,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli strikes and military operations. Hamas continues to launch rockets into Israel, and hostages remain in captivity under appalling conditions, he said, urging their immediate release.

In the resumed meeting, additional member states provide their updated statements on the situation.

The meeting was adjourned.
