Jimmy Carter 1924-2024 Championed Human Rights at the United Nations
Former US President Jimmy Carter has died Sunday 29 December 2024. He was 100 years old. On October 5, 1977, President Jimmy Carter signed the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. On that day, the President promised to promptly transmit the two treaties to the Senate for ratification. In so doing, he drew a parallel between the 'lofty standard of liberty and equality' embodied in the American Declaration of Independence and the principles of international human rights reflected in the United Nations Charter."
Utilizing material from the UN Audiovisual Library, this episode celebrates Carter's unique life and legacy.
