“We are here today after UNICEF, and its partners have launched the ten-day routine immunization and nutrition services catch up campaign across the Gaza Strip. As you can see behind me, parents are bringing their children to receive the routine immunization and nutrition services. And in support of these efforts, UNICEF has deployed over 160 social mobilizes to work directly with the communities with and for the communities to raise awareness and nudge families to take their children to the nearby health facilities to get vaccinated. This all is part of UNICEF commitment to make sure that every child receives the care and protection that they deserve.”

“My grandson came out of the war at one week old, so he was very late getting his vaccines because we didn’t know where the vaccination centers were. He missed his one-month shot, and even now, some kids still haven’t had their 18-month vaccines. We didn’t know where to go, or sometimes the centers were just too far from where we were displaced. The team did such a great job coming to us, showing us where the centers are, and explaining how important vaccines are for protecting children from diseases — especially now, with new diseases showing up in Gaza because of the pollution from the war here in Gaza.”
After two years of disrupted health services, on 9 November 2025 UNICEF and its partners have launched a catch-up vaccination campaign across the Gaza Strip, to reach more than 44,000 children who have missed their routine vaccinations.
Through this campaign, UNICEF is working to ensure that every child receives life-saving vaccines that protect them from measles, polio, pneumonia, and many other preventable childhood diseases. Health teams are visiting primary health care centres and shelters to reach displaced families and ensure that no child is left behind.
The campaign, supported by GAVI the vaccine alliance, is part of UNICEF’s broader efforts to restore essential health services for children and support caregivers with accurate information about the importance of timely immunization.
