Storyline

Repeat strikes across southern Beirut, South Lebanon and the Bekaa valley have led to hundreds of deaths and injuries - many of them women and children, and forced 667,000 people from their homes. Most of the displaced are staying in schools or repurposed collective shelters. Others take shelter in their cars, and some remain by the roadside.

The health system, which had not recovered from the 2024 attacks, is severely strained, with 50 primary health care centres forced to shutter. Disruption to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, compounded by inadequate sanitation are increasing health risks for women and girls. Lack of privacy in shelters and the stress associated with displacement heightens risk of gender-based violence (GBV).

In response, UNFPA is deploying mobile health teams to address health gaps and is providing integrated SRH-GBV and mental health services in healthcare centres where there are a high concentration of internally displaced people. UNFPA is also distributing baby kits to pregnant women and dignity kits with essential sanitation supplies; and also provides protection services in displacement shelters in support of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Baby kits are provided to pregnant women and new mothers. They include a blanket, baby clothes, baby hygiene material, diapers, towel, baby rash cream, breastfeeding pads, among other essentials.
