“A quick update from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where our Blue Helmets there continue to protect civilians in the volatile area of south-eastern Djugu territory, in Ituri province. This is the same area where – as we mentioned- blue helmets evacuated nearly 200 people, and where they also provided escorts for students to Bunia so they could take their exams. On Monday night, following reports from the Congolese armed forces that members of two armed groups, CODECO and the CRP, were gathering in two nearby villages, the mission proactively deployed two patrols. The peacekeepers successfully evacuated 24 civilians, including 8 women and 15 children, provided medical assistance and safely transferred them to a safe location. Our Blue Helmets continue to conduct day and night patrols in this part of Ituri and elsewhere to deter clashes between armed groups, prevent violence, and save civilian lives and restore confidence among local communities.”

Dujarric said “Blue Helmets there continue to protect civilians in the volatile area of south-eastern Djugu territory, in Ituri province,” the same area where Blue Helmets “evacuated nearly 200 people, and where they also provided escorts for students to Bunia so they could take their exams.”
