We are also deeply concerned by with Israeli strikes today in southern Beirut. We also note with concern intensified Israeli airstrikes on alleged Hizbullah targets across the UNIFIL area of operations as well as north of the Litani River, including in the Bekaa Valley, and reports of Israel Defense Forces' ground incursions north of the Litani River. We again urge all to respect the cessation of hostilities and stop any further attacks. We reiterate that civilians and civilian infrastructure must never be targeted. We condemn the loss of civilian lives.”

“Yesterday, UNIFIL reported approximately 670 trajectories of projectiles, that’s the highest number since the cessation of hostilities came into effect on 17 April. UNIFIL also continued to observe intensive ground and air activities by the IDF, including armored vehicle movements, large-scale engineering works, sustained logistical traffic and air strikes, across the mission's area of operations. Renewed evacuation orders by Israeli authorities over the past 48 hours have affected hundreds of thousands of people south of the Zahrani River, including in the cities of Tyre and Nabatieh. Collective shelters in Tyre and Saida are reportedly full and cannot take any more people. OCHA is concerned that families are once again being forced to flee their homes under conditions that are intolerable for any human being.”

The United Nations is “deeply” concerned by the escalation of hostilities in Lebanon, as well as Israeli strikes today in southern Beirut, a UN Spokesperson said.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric today (28 May) told reporter “with concern” intensified Israeli airstrikes on alleged Hizbullah targets across the UNIFIL area of operations as well as north of the Litani River, including in the Bekaa Valley, and reports of Israel Defense Forces' ground incursions north of the Litani River.

The world body urged all to “respect the cessation of hostilities and stop any further attacks, reiterating that civilians and civilian infrastructure “must never be targeted.”

“We condemn the loss of civilian lives,” Dujarric added.

Meanwhile, for her part, the Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanin Hennis Plaschaert, and the Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL, Major General Diodato Abagnara, continue to engage with the parties to urge immediate de-escalation and to uphold their obligations under Security Council resolution 1701, the Spokesperson noted.

On Wednesday (27 May), UNIFIL reported approximately 670 trajectories of projectiles, that’s the highest number since the cessation of hostilities came into effect on 17 April.
