Threats to international peace and security - Security Council, 10162nd meeting
Holding its fourth emergency meeting on the war in Ukraine in just two weeks, the Security Council today discussed allegations of yet another grave security incident — a reported Russian Federation drone crash in neighbouring Romania — as the representatives of Moscow and Kyiv sparred over their version of the event.
If confirmed, the reported drone crash in the Romanian city of Galaţi would mark the first time Moscow’s increasingly frequent drone incursions into the airspace of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries has resulted in civilian casualties.
It also comes at a period of “sharp escalation” in the more than four-year-old war, stressed many of the Council’s 15 members, warning that the spiraling violence will have devastating consequences for the wider region if it continues.
