You may remember that the negotiators themselves and we are not a party to the negotiation, we are supposed to be inspecting the nuclear part, but they have established like an executive committee or supervisory committee which will include technical working groups including one on nuclear. So there is some process that they are trying to define to channel the discussions within this sixty day period that they have given to themselves.”

The IAEA Director General spoke to reporters today (26 Jun) in Tokyo. He said, “we have barely initiated conversations with Iran so as to determine what are the modalities and by modalities we refer to frequency, places to be visited and so on. So the process, as you know, last weekend we were in Birkenstock in Switzerland where initial conversations have taken place. So I expect this work to pick up soon.”

Asked about his comments on the different public statements by Washington and Tehran on the access of nuclear inspectors, Gross said, “What is undeniable is that we have an MOU. This MOU specifically indicates that the nuclear part of the memorandum will be supervised, this is the work that will be supervised by the IAEA.”
