4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ambassador Ali Abdessalam Treki, President of the 64th. General Assembly, United Nations:
“First, we are convinced that nuclear weapons as weapons of mass destruction should be removed from the entire world. This is really important. And we have taken steps in that regard, but these will continue. The logic that is that unacceptable to us is that the advocates of disarmament or those who would not wish Iran to acquire nuclear weapons are the ones who possess the most nuclear weapons and produce and manufacture the most of them. Then two, should we start -when it comes to the Middle East, and I believe that everyone is aware that Israel possesses nuclear weapons, there are resolutions by the United Nations on declaring the Middle East as a nuclear weapons free zone, etc, etc. Who should we start with, with the country that actually possesses nuclear weapons, or the one that is only attempting to acquire them?”

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ambassador Ali Abdessalam Treki, President of the 64th. General Assembly, United Nations:
“The elections in Iran should be respected. The results of the elections in Iran should be respected. I do not believe that there is animosity between Iran and the Arab nations, I don’t believe so. Iran is a neighboring country, is an Islamic country that has deep relations with Arab countries.”
