“I would describe that situation is unacceptable and inhumane and as a member of planet earth and as human being, I found this is a human tragedy and we are all witnessing human tragedy and we have to do something about it.”

“Overwhelmingly the kids in all the three areas said they wanted to be doctors, also some said they wanted to be teachers. It says a lot that when a kid dreams to be a doctor about the need for medical care and the wounds perhaps they have seen, the fact that that’s in front of their mind, there was a disproportionate amount of kids who wanting to be doctors, great goals. I just feel leaving, when I leave with a sense of sorrow, and a sense of failure that we as the adults in the world have once again failed to protect the children and make them feel safe.”

In her first visit to the Occupied Palestinian Territory UNICEF goodwill ambassador Mia Farrow met families in Gaza who are coping with the after-effects of January’s conflict.
Nearly three hundred schools were damaged during the fighting and many cannot be repaired because of the ongoing blockade. Omar Bin Al Khattab School operates on a double shift, to accommodate students who have nowhere to study.
Mia Farrow was joined by fellow Goodwill Ambassador and award winning Egyptian actor Mahmoud Kabil. They visited Gaza’s Artificial Limb Centre which is struggling to meet the demand for prosthetic limbs.

In the northern West Bank Ms Farrow met children at a refugee camp in Jenin. And she visited Israeli families who’ve been affected by incoming rocket fire from Gaza.

UNICEF is providing water and sanitation facilities for the boys at Aqqaba School in the northern West Bank and similar work is underway at 22 other schools in the region … ensuring that more than 7,000 school children can learn in safety and comfort.
