“Each day the World Food Program (WFP) is bringing in greater amounts of food to the people that have been victims of the earthquake. This particular convoy consists of three trucks carrying enough high energy biscuits to feed 25 thousand people for five days, the beneficiaries come from a make shift camp that established itself on a piece of open ground near by”.

“What's important is to coordinate the right kind of response and to make sure that we're getting the right kind of foods in. Right now people can't cook so we have to bring in ready to use foods and we're putting out a global call for all the world to give us meals ready to eat - the kind that are used by militaries and others that are precooked in packages that can be brought in and given to people so they can eat.”

“We are working in a very close tandem with the US military, they have offered us every possible help and we need it. Since the earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday 12 January, more than 270,000 ready-to-eat food rations have been distributed by the World Food Program (WFP) and the United States (US) military in and around Port-au-Prince. Distributions were ramping up fast.
WFP is procuring 4.2 million rations of supplementary ready-to-use foods in the form of energy biscuits specifically designed to give children the calories and nutrition they need each day.
WFP spokesperson in Haiti David Orr said that the World Food Program was bringing greater amounts of food to the earthquake survivors on a daily basis. The convoy that arrived on Sunday (17 Jan) consisted of three trucks carrying enough high energy biscuits to feed 25 thousand people for five days.
WFP has established four humanitarian hubs to deliver food assistance in Port-au-Prince, and at least 30 others at locations across Haiti. To support this massive operation, WFP is utilizing five humanitarian corridors into Haiti with the support of U.S. military
WFP’s Executive Director, Josette Sheeran said that the importance lies in coordinating the right kind of response and making sure that the right kind of foods get in.
An agreement on guaranteed landing slots for aircraft carrying humanitarian assistance means that the flow of aid to the people of Haiti will increase dramatically in the coming days.
Sheeran said that WFP was working in very close tandem with the US military, and that they had offered the agency any help they might need, “and we need it,” she said.
WFP is appealing for US$279 million to support its relief operation in Haiti and is asking governments across the world to assist by helping to rehabilitate Haiti’s ports, repair the road infrastructure, provide security for humanitarian workers, and donate trucks.
