Storyline

Brazil aims to distribute 15 tons of food and 22,000 liters of water to the population in Haiti in the coming days.

On Friday, daily food distributions reached 4,000 quake survivors in Port-au-Prince.

UN Force Commander Major-General Floriano Peixoto Vieira Neto said security is “absolutely” under control.

Eighteen flights have delivered 200 tons of aid including food, water, tents, medicine, a hospital and medical equipment.

There are 46 medical doctors and nurses on the ground, along with 50 firefighters who specialize in search and rescue using sniffer dogs.

Brazil contributes the bulk of troops to the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti. Nearly 1,300 Brazilian UN peacekeepers work in rescue operations.
