Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived today (25 February) in Haiti for a one day visit aimed at reaffirming Brazil's commitment to the reconstruction of the devastated Island nation, after the 12 January earthquake.
Lula arrived from Cuba and was welcomed at the recently re-opened Toussaint Louverture International airport of Port-au-Prince by Haitian President René Préval and MINUSTAH’s Force Commander, General Floriano Peixoto Vieira Neto.
After a meeting with the United Nations Special representative for Haiti, Edmond Mulet, he is expected to sign a four acts package ranging from educational to agricultural bilateral cooperation.
Brazil is the largest United Nations troop contributor in Haiti and has in recent years sponsored a series of projects and initiatives intended to nurture development.
From Haiti, the Brazilian President will travel to El Salvador.
