Many Pakistanis, displaced by the recent flooding, are pitching up sheets of plastic and cloth, sometimes tents wherever they can find a little piece of dry land.
Recent rains have brought the worse floods Pakistan has seen in decades driving millions from their homes.
Many fled with nothing and humanitarian assistance is sporadic because so many roads and key bridges remain cut off.
Akbar Ali was driven from his home in the middle of the night.
SOUNDBITE (Pashto) Akbar Ali, Flood Victim:
“I was kept awake all night and when the water started to enter the house I gathered my family and ran.”
He went to his home to assess the damage. Most of his carpentry tools were washed away along with his household wares. What little he has left is now covered in mud.
Across northern Pakistan's more than 12,000 UNHCR tents have been distributed, but much more is needed to replace the thousands of homes, livestock and personal possessions that disappeared with the flood waters.
