Storyline

Three days after the historical presidential elections in Côte d’Ivoire, the president of Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Youssouf Bakayoko, announced the results of the vote in the presence of all candidates’ representatives and international partners.

Two of the three leading candidates incumbent Laurent Gbagbo, former head of state Henri Konan Bedie and former Prime Minister Alassane Dramane Ouattara will go on the second round.

Bakayoko announced that Gbagbo received 1,755,495 votes or 38.3 percent of the ballots, followed by Bedie who received 1,165,219 votes, or 25.24 percent.

Alassane Ouattara came in third with 1,480,610 votes or 32.08 percent.

The date of the next round of voting will be announced in the coming hours by the Constitutional Council.
