Storyline

In Pakistan’s Sindh province, the risk of malnutrition among those who have lost everything in the floods is particularly high, much higher than the national average.

In the rural areas, where many of the displaced come from, malnutrition may be more pronounced with the shortage of safe drinking water, food and poor living conditions. Children in this region have little immunity to diseases like diarrhea, acute respiratory infections and Tuberculosis.

UNICEF in partnership with the National Institute of Child Health has adopted the community-based management of malnutrition approach towards the treatment of severely malnourished children.

As the winter closes in, the plight of Pakistan’s floods victims, especially women and children, is far from over. UNICEF urges the international community to join them in the fight to reduce child mortality which is already at its highest ever.
