Storyline

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano delivered a concluding statement on the last day of a Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety in Vienna, Austria.

The meeting was initiated by Amano following the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in Japan, which was caused by a major earthquake and tsunami on 11th March 2011.

In his closing statement the Director General said that through the Ministerial Declaration adopted as the outcome of the conference “Member States have expressed their sense of urgency, as well as their determination that the lessons of Fukushima Daiichi will be learned and that the appropriate action will be taken.”
