Storyline

Over 5,000 children attending UNRWA’S Summer Games in the Gaza Strip today (21 July) created the largest-ever handprint painting.
At a stadium in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, some 1,500 children gathered to unveil the canvas that covered 5,620 square metres, smashing the previous record by over a thousand square metres.

A young girl in the crowd said: “we came here to break the world record of hands printing in order to keep always Gaza in the front.”

Speaking at the event, UNRWA Spokesman Chris Gunness highlighted the problems of the Israeli blockade.

He said that the kids of Gaza had done it once again, “they’ve put their spot light on the fact that there is what the Red Cross calls an illegal blockade, an illegal collective punishment, a breach of international law.”

Also present at the event Christer Nordahl, UNRWA’s acting Director of Operations in Gaza noted that today the children of Gaza broke the world record again.

He said that “when you give the children of Gaza a chance, the same chance then other children around the world they will prove that they are the best.”
