On Cote d’Ivoire’s Independence Day, Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara honoured United Nations (UN) Special Representative Y.J. Choi for his efforts in promoting the return of peace and democracy in the country.
At the Independence Day celebrations yesterday (7 Aug), President Ouattara presented Choi with a medal of honour. Speaking acter the ceremony, Choi said he dedicated the medal to the Ivorian people adding “long live the people of Cote d’Ivoire, long live to the Ivorian people, long live the Republic.”
Choi will be leaving the UN mission in the country (ONUCI) at the end of the month. He will be replaced by Bert Koenders of the Netherlands who is the co-chair of the Working Group for the Fourth UN High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness and chair of the Rutgers World Population Foundation.
