Storyline

My name is Ali Yusef Omar. I am 16-year-old Kenyan. The drought has displaced me. And all these people you see have been displaced by the drought.

The living conditions are terrible for the people. All we have is porridge to eat. I feel so bad about it. My family is hungry and there is nothing I can do.

These are the last goats we have. As you see, there are three. And before the drought we have over 200 goats.

They eat box. Even the boxes we have collected them around the town.

We have no money for grass or maize, so we feed the goats on cardboard that we get from around town.

Of course these goats are going to die. You think they’re going to survive on boxes?

This is my house that we live, my mother and other five brothers and sisters.

It is important for me to go to school, because as you see, my parents, they usually have livestock but all their livestock have passed away. For me, it’s good for me to do my hard work, to save them for future life. For you to get educated is also important. I want to be an educated man.

It is difficult for me to read, because I use this one as a source of light at night, only to read, while others are using electric light.

The subjects I like best are science and math because, whatever you do, they will help you most to get a job.

The family was paying for my school fees from the livestock, so I don’t know who will pay for my school fees now.
