Storyline

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Mrs. Ban today and toured United Nations (UN) headquarters which is currently undergoing renovations.

While touring the various chambers, the Secretary-General thanked Their Majesties and the Swedish government for their “generous support.”

The UN headquarters complex in New York was constructed from 1949-1952. The landmark building is seen all over the world as a symbol of the United Nations itself, and it is a rare example of the international style architecture of the 1950s.

The Capital Master Plan (CMP) is a five-year, (USD)$1.87 billion renovation project to bring the UN compound into the 21st century and should result in a safer, more modern, and more energy-efficient complex.
