Deputy United Nations Envoy for South Sudan Lisa Grande said today that the situation in Jonglei has deteriorated, as thousands of heavily armed youth from the Lou Nuer tribe advanced on the town of Pibor, a major town in the center of Jonglei State.
Grande expressed serious concern about the impact on civilians with the ongoing communal violence in Jonglei State and said most civilians inside Pibor had evacuated the town fearing for their lives and fled to the bush.

Earlier today critical humanitarian relief was set to be flown into the area by humanitarian actors but most of the affected areas were inaccessible by road. However, plans had to be temporarily suspended this morning because of reports of a deteriorating security situation in the area.
