An Ethiopian Air force flight crash-landed at Mogadishu International Airport today (9A ugust)killing four crewmembers and injuring two others.
The air crash occurred shortly before 08:00 when the plane burst into flames up on landing. AMISOM emergency medical and fire personnel were on location and immediately contained the fire rescuing the two casualties. The exact cause of the crash is yet to be established but investigations are currently underway.
John Robert Asea, an AMISOM Medical doctor said that “The two casualties were not seriously injured they just had minor bruises on the face and inthe arms”.
He added that, “they didn’t have any serious injuries, they are not in a critical state, they are stable.”
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif in a statement expressed his heart-felt condolences to the Government and people of Ethiopia following the loss of lives and wished quick recovery for the injured crew members.
There has been no damage to the runway and operations at the Aden Ade International airport in Mogadishu and normal operations are expected to resume shortly.
