Storyline

The armed conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) has led to increase in humanitarian needs in a country already struggling with high levels of food insecurity.

Nearly half a million people are at risk of food insecurity in CAR, over 130,000 are classified as “in urgent need” of food assistance. Since March, the livelihoods of already vulnerable households have been further disrupted due to the crisis.

The security situation in the country remains tense, with security incidents being reported in Bangui and across the country. WFP is establishing solid presence in deep field and expanding activities despite the persistent security constraints.

Humanitarian needs have risen in recent months as the re-emergence of armed conflicts exacerbates the security situation in the country. WFP continues to increase its response, reaching over 84,000 people with food assistance in July and more than 34,000 during the first weeks of August.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is providing food assistance to 200,000 people in need in conflict-affected areas and plans to double the people reached by the end of the year.
