“With this first ever large-scale LEGO replica of the United Nations, we salute today’s youth and we encourage them to continue to be actively engaged in global issues. We also wish to highlight today the shared ambition between the LEGO Foundation and the United Nations, and that is to foster creative and critical thinking skills, because they are essential for empowering and equipping our children of today to be the architects of a better world. They are the architects of a better world.”

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today (20 September) added the last LEGO piece to a large scale LEGO model of the United Nations’ Headquarters, as part of the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit focused on “Architects of a Better World.”
The completion of the 1.65m tall model by the Secretary-General followed a series of exercises in which global CEOs used specially-designed creativity kits of LEGO bricks to build their vision of a stronger future for education, human rights and the environment.
The LEGO Foundation’s CEO, Dr. Randa Grob-Zakhary highlighted “the shared ambition” between the LEGO Foundation and the United Nations to “foster creative and critical thinking skills, because they are essential for empowering and equipping our children of today to be the architects of a better world.”
Over a thousand CEOs and C-suite executives drawn to New York for the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit are expected to endorse an architecture for engagement unveiled by the United Nations Secretary-General this morning.
The plan to link business engagement with global priorities is a milestone in the growth of the UN Global Compact since its founding in 2000, when UN-business ties were scarce, to its current status as the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, with the participation of 8,000 companies and 4,000 civil society organizations from 145 countries.
