British Foreign Secretary William Hague said that Iran could play a constructive role by supporting the Geneva framework for a negotiation between the Assad regime and the opposition and "stopping its direct support for regime forces.”

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Hague said that his government was working "very hard" on the situation in Syria and "giving effect to the agreement" between Russia and the United States on dealing with Syria’s chemical weapons including work on a Security Council resolution.

Earlier,Italy’s Foreign Minister Emma Bonino said that the Syrian issue should be solved diplomatically and as for Iran's involvement with Syria, "since the election of Rouhani, that if Iran is part of the problem in the Syrian game they have to be part of the solution.”

Asked about Russia's geo-poloitcal dealings with Syria, she said "it's a normal game and frankly, not anything new. The the question is what will be the point of negotiation,they are not the only actors worldwide."
