Storyline

Under Secretary-General for the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous arrived on Wednesday (30 October) in Côte d'Ivoire.

Ladsous, accompanied by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou, held discussions with the Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs,Charles Koffi Diby, on the progress made so far in the peace process, security, reconciliation and economic recovery, as well as the UN Mission's collaboration with Côte d’Ivoire.

Addressing the assembly of African Union’s Golden Jubilee, Ladsous said the United Nations was “intensifying efforts to mobilize all partnerships with the African Union, with the regional commissions and the regional organizations to achieve as soon as possible more credibility, more stability and stronger mechanism of response. I personally commit to work with you hand-in-hand to establish and continue to strengthen the best possible mechanisms for collaboration.”

Today (31 October) Ladsous visited the President of the Ivorian Democratic Party, Henry Konan Bedie.

After the meeting he said “there is still work to do and including ensuring full national reconciliation, which requires the participation of all, without restriction, but I think it is a process that is particularly advanced and must continue and this is the message that I will express to other actors in the Ivorian political life and we are obviously still support.”

Ladsous, said everything should be done to ensure the upcoming Ivorian elections are held under the best possible conditions for the consolidation of the situation and for the good of all Ivorians.

He also expressed satisfaction over the actions of the Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara in the management of the crisis in Mali.

Ladsous, together with UNOCI Force Commander, Major General Muhammad Iqbal, visited the Ivorian Army Headquarters and met with General Soumaïla Bakayoko, the Army Chief of Staff.
