Tired, sad, hungry and homeless. These are some of the faces of the people forcibly displaced by sectarian violence in the Central African Republic (CAR).
UNHCR believes that hundreds of thousands are on the move in search of safety.
These people found refuge in the Monastery of a Catholic Church in Bangui, the country’s capital, after heavy fighting between two armed groups rocked their villages.
Ivonne Danfei, a mother of 12 children is lucky to have this small tent in this church.
She has lived here for two weeks. Her children are sick and weak she says.

Catherine Kongombe has been at this church for a week now. When the attack started, everyone ran in different direction. She’s lost some of her children, she says.
And to feed the ones who are with her she had to walk for more 6 kilometers.

Since fighting broke out in Bangui and other regions of the country two weeks ago more than two hundred thousand people have been displaced, while others have found refugee in the neighboring countries.
UNHCR has been distribution tents and blankets. As the number of displaced grows, so does the need.
SOUNDBITE (FRENCH) Natalie Christ, UNHCR Field Officer:
“This people here need everything because they abandoned everything in their flight to get here. They need shelter, food, medical care and clean water. The humanitarian community has mobilized to set up mobilized to set up mobile clinics as well as clinics on sit”.
Yvonne Danfei hopes for peace to return to the country and for help to make it happen.
The security situation in the Central African Republic remains very volatile, making humanitarian access difficult and at times even impossible.
Over the last year, these ongoing clashes fueled by sectarian violence have displaced well over 600,000 people.
