Storyline

The Syrian government and opposition agreed to extend a three-day truce in Old Homs to allow humanitarian access, after it was broken on Saturday.

Since Friday (7 Feb), humanitarian teams working with the local authorities, representatives of all sides and community leaders, in extremely dangerous circumstances, managed to evacuate more than 800 people and bring vital food and medical supplies to those who have been besieged with little aid for nearly two years.

Residents described the difficulties they faced.

After crossing from the Old City into the government- controlled area, the men women and children were transported in buses to a nearby centre.

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) is helping to coordinate the response.

UN agencies say millions more are in need of humanitarian relief across the war torn country.
