Storyline

Hany is a 20 year old Syrian refugee from Homs who lives with his family in a small tented settlement in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Back in Syria, Hany was at university studying to be a communications engineer, but he was unable to complete his studies.

In Lebanon he doesn’t have the fees to study, a painful realisation for a boy who loves to learn. Hany taught himself English by listening to music and watching films, he loves gadgets and spends all his time communicating and writing to his friends who are spread out across the region. When he is not on Facebook, he goes to the nearest village and does theatre and workshops to keep his mind active. He is also a prolific poet, when he feels he can’t handle the the pain of exile, Hany sits and writes.

(In Arabic)
My name is Hany, I am 20 years old from Homs Syria and I left home because of the war there and the fighting there. I live right now in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley in a small camp with my family.

Well, the time here doesn’t matter because we don’t do anything, we don’t have a repeated actions every day like school university, all our life is related with this small camp, we don’t care for the time, we were just living.

I don’t see my future here, I don’t see something, I am just living.

Every morning is a battle with myself, all the feelings come to me, all the memories, but with nothing I am grateful, I am believer of my destiny and I accept it, at least for now.

I want to share my life, with the others, every morning I take photos and send it to my friends and they do the same, so we can feel that we are together and not in other countries.

My phone is my little world, you know.

The refugee, when I just hear it from the Lebanese people or the Syrians, it is a bad word, I am not a refugee, I left my home with strong of everything but we have to accept it and deal with it but I want to support this society here and make social activity and show the Lebanese people we can do what they do but in the end I am a refugee, you can say that.

As I a Syrian guy that I want to send a message to the world, that I am proud of myself and my country but please stop all of this for the children, for the old men, for the people, it is not good to see all the killing all this blood and all this destruction and you have to say you don’t care, you are humans, as a humans to have to care for us.
