Storyline

Israeli President Shimon Peres met today with Yukiya Amano, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency at the Agency’s Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

The meeting comes after the latest round of negotiations between Iran and world powers earlier this month, targeted at curbing Iran's nuclear program.

Iran has agreed to curtail its uranium enrichment program in exchange for easing the economic sanctions.

Calling Israel a “valued partner both in the region and beyond”, Amano expressed his appreciation for Israel’s cooperation in different areas – nuclear medicine, radio therapy and sterile insect technology.

He also underlined the challenges facing the international community such as Iran’s nuclear issue and nuclear weapon free zone in the Middle East.

Peres expressed frustration about the slow pace at which Iran is implementing the agreement with the Agency. He also said that Iran has violated multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and it does not upholds its commitment to cooperate with the Agency’s investigation.
