“We are exercising our legal right as a state to join these instruments. We are part of humanity and this would allow us to shoulder our responsibility in carrying what is required from us under the provisions of these instruments. We are proud of that and we are delighted to do that and we consider the action by our President as a step to consolidate and strengthen the pillars of the State of Palestine in the international system.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations:
“We do not believe that what we’ve done is a violation of anything. As I said, we were ready and willing to keep this exercise on hold as long as Israel is abiding by the agreement of releasing all the political prisoners, and the last batch, the fourth batch was supposed to be released a few days ago, the end of March. It was the Israeli side that decided to violate this agreement or understanding by not honouring their part of this agreement.”
