“There are around one hundred thousand in UN premises but don’t forget there are probably more than a million internally displaced in the whole county. So it is really a challenge that peace be established and weapons silent because that would give the citizens confidence to go back to their homes to their villages to take care of their land and other chores and I certainly hope that that situation will come as soon as possible.”

The new Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) to South Sudan, Ellen Margrethe Løj of Denmark, arrived in Juba today.
Upon arrival Løj, who is also the new head of the UN Mission in the country, said that she is happy to be in South Sudan and look forward to start her new function as Special Representative.
She was met at Juba International Airport by UNMISS senior management, led by Deputy SRSG Toby Lanzer and the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Charles Manyang,
Løj, who served as SRSG to the UN Mission in Liberia from 2008 to 2012, succeeds Hilde F. Johnson of Norway, who completed her assignment on 7 July.
The new mission chief also previously held a number of senior positions in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Ambassador to Israel.
In an interview with Radio Miraya (a UN Radio) in Juba Løj said, South Sudan needs peace, fighting should stop to give citizens the confidence to go back to their homes.
She added that the challenge is huge and difficult. The people of South Sudan have fought hard for their independence and added that the sons and daughters should be able to focus on realizing their potential and not worry they could be killed tomorrow or go to bed hungry.
