Acid Rain

Acid Rain

18 January 1988

Transboundary air pollution produced by factories, power plants and motor vehicles when mixed with rain turns into dilute sulphuric and nitric acid. Lake and rivers were the first victims of acid rain. As a result of the Conference on acidification held in Stockholm in 1982 the governments of Europe agreed to try to reduce sulphur emission by 30 percent by 1992, says Dr. Brown.
