1988-1997 is the UN World Decade for Cultural Development, and supporting art restoration in cities around the world is one of the major goals of the Decade. UNDP and UNESCO are carrying out city projects in many countries in order to preserve our cultural heritage. Preserving old buildings and monuments means training artisans in old techniques which will help restore cities and at the same time create job opportunities.
