The UN Tackles Toxic Pesticides
Indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides is having negative effects not only on harvests but also on the health of farm workers and consumers. UN Agencies are helping developing countries control the importation of toxic pesticides across their borders. Technical experts agreed recently to the system of Prior Informed Consent for banned pesticides. It is hoped final agreement will be reached at the UN Environment Programme's Governing Council next year.
