UN Helps Clean-up Havana Harbour

UN Helps Clean-up Havana Harbour

22 May 1989

The Government of Cuba has joined hands with the UN to clean-up the country's major port. More than two million people live and work close to the port, one of the oldest in the New World. It's also the focus of the country's maritime activity. But decades of neglect led to dangerous levels of pollution of both human and industrial wastes. UNDP and UNESCO are providing the necessary technology to carry out the clean-up operation.
