In Bangladesh a parallel system to government schools has been set up to extend education in the community. Run by BRAC, Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, it now has 2500 schools throughout the country. It receives assistance from the World Bank and UNICEF and is proving successful as a way of reaching children who otherwise would receive no formal education.
