Trinidad And Tobago Acts To Halt Coastal Pollution

In the Caribbean region, Trinidad and Tobago is spearheading the efforts to reverse the pollution of coastal waters. The Government's Institute of Marine Affairs, with assistance from the UNDP, monitors the environmental quality of marine waters. Its early warning system aims to avert the unwanted by-products of its principal industries such as oil slicks and sewage sludge. The protection of coastal areas will be discussed during the Earth Summit in Brazil in June 1992.
