Refugees Return Home To El Salvador As Parties Sign Historic Peace Accord

With the recent signing of the peace accord, ending 12 years of civil war in El Salvador, refugees can now return home. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the UNHCR, is organizing convoys of buses to assist the return of one million EL Salvadoreans who were displaced or exiled by the war. Once back home, UNHCR and other agencies such as ONUSAL, are helping the returnees rebuild their lives. Homes and schools have been reconstructed and small industry started again, helping restore the confidence of EL Salvadorean returnees in the future of their country. (3 min., 10 sec .)
