Biodiversity

The destruction of forests, despoliation of seas, urban sprawl - they are all endangering an often overlooked but vital resource, the wonderful diversity of biological species. Preserving this living treasure trove is a major issue at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio. The problem is worldwide but there are signs of hope, an effort to preserve and regenerate the coral reefs of the Philippines, for example.
