ILO Project To Eliminate Child Labour In Sugar Cane Fields

ILO Project To Eliminate Child Labour In Sugar Cane Fields

22 November 1993

In Brazil, children under the age of fourteen constitute a sizeable percentage of the workers who plant and harvest sugar cane. These children earn wages to assist their parents in providing food and shelter for the family. With the help of the ILO, the local Municipal Children's Fund is offering a thirty dollar grant to families in exchange for allowing their children to return to school and enjoy their childhood years.
