Family Planning Gets A Boost In The Philippines

Family Planning Gets A Boost In The Philippines

24 January 1994

With annual population growth of 2.4 per cent, a majority of Filipinos, despite the opposition of the Catholic Church, are accepting government-sponsored family planning. In addition, private organizations supported by the UN Population Fund are giving money to poor urban women so they can start small businesses and gain control of their lives. This population/sustainable development linkage will be addressed at a UN conference on Population and Development in Cairo later this year.
