Locust Plague Threatens The Bread Basket Of Afghanistan

The production of bread, already hampered by years of civil war in Afghanistan, is further threatened by one of the farmer's worst enemies - locusts. Since spring, dense hopper bands have devastated tens of thousands of hectares of wheat fields in Mazar province. FAO is helping the farmers to control the infestation with truck mounted sprayers which spread the chemical ULV. Further serious damage can only be averted by financial aid from the international community.
