A breakthrough of sorts involving the intractable problem of child labour was reached in Bangladesh. At the initiative of ILO and UNICEF, garment employers agreed with the Government to stop hiring child workers. But in order to succeed, schools have to be set up and subsidy provided to families who depend on the income the children bring home.
