New forms of credit opportunities enable women in Tanzania to start their own businesses in productive, income-generating activities. The loans are being provided by the UN supported National Income Generation Programme. A typical creditor is a hand loom project that is assisting eighty groups of women establish self-employment in the cloth industry making traditional garments of Kikoi. Micro-credit projects like this help women to break the cycle of poverty and contribute to the economic development of society.
