Unicef Uses Camel Caravans In Global Immunization Campaign
UNICEF's global immunization campaign has been a huge success. From 5 per cent coverage of children in the developing world in 1980, rates have jumped to 80 per cent today. But the effort to reach the remaining 20 per cent is not easy. This minority includes the marginalized groups and people living in isolated areas. In Djibouti, in the horn of Africa, UNICEF's immunization team travels across dessert terrain by using camel caravans to reach nomadic tribes scattered throughout the area.
